Pet Preparedness Month
June is National Pet Preparedness Month, and the County of San Diego’s Office of Emergency Services and Department of Animal Services are reminding residents to make sure their family disaster preparedness plan includes provisions for their household pets.

Mobile teams deliver vaccines
Farmworkers can find it challenging to get to a COVID-19 vaccination clinic because they work in rural, remote locations. But thanks to the efforts of emergency responders, the initiative Operation Collaboration has vaccinated more than 2,000 farmworkers since April 9, with plans for even greater outreach over the next months. The operation uses the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which simplifies scheduling for those working in the county’s fifth-largest industry.

Just when you thought you’ve seen it all, Legoland California decides to take it up a notch. The Carlsbad theme park recently opened “Lego Movie World,” a whole zone devoted to the two Lego movies and its characters. Youths get vaccine shots
Vaccination sites around San Diego County started giving shots to the newest eligible group seeking COVID-19 protection, youths between the ages of 12 and 15 years old. Also, the County opened its newest vaccine site, at the Joe and Vi Jacobs Center at 404 Euclid Ave.

North County Vaccination Super Station opens

(Jan. 31, 2021) San Diego County opened the region’s third Vaccination Super Station today at the California State University San Marcos Sports Center. It will be open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays. Appointments are required and can be made online at www.VaccinationSuperStationSD.com. Initially, the site is expected to vaccinate 250 to 1,000 people per day, depending on the number of vaccines available, eventually building up to 5,000-plus vaccines daily.

ShakeOut preps people for earthquake preparedness

(Oct. 15, 2020) Millions took a step toward better earthquake preparedness by participating in International ShakeOut Day 2020. The annual drill is an opportunity to practice “Drop, Cover and Hold On” and reinforce additional lessons on what to do, and what not to do, during an earthquake. County leaders discussed and demonstrated the importance of earthquake preparedness with the help of the Big Shaker. Visit ReadySanDiego.org.
Animal services takes in dogs ahead of hurricane

(Oct. 8, 2020) The San Diego County Department of Animal Services helped dogs evacuated from Louisiana, which was threatened by Hurricane Delta.
A cargo plane filled with crates of almost 100 dogs arrived at Gillespie Field Thursday. Shelters in Louisiana are creating space for animals they expect to arrive if the region is impacted by the hurricane.
